How To Choose Best Hosting for Your Website

If you are starting a website the first thing you should do is find a good hosting provider. If you select the right hosting provider it will not only save you from future hassles but it is also beneficial for SEO of your website. There are too many hosting provider available in the market and many of them will give you fake promises like unlimited bandwidth ,connections ,space etc.But as your website start gaining decent traffic they will ask you to upgrade your hosting plans as they cannot support that much traffic under your current plan.

Then most of us have no other option but have to upgrade the hosting plan as moving the website to new host is not an easy task.Moreovere there is no guarantee that the new host will not play the same tricks. So selecting the best hosting can be really difficult.

Each webhost usually provides three types of hosting services

  • Shared Hosting
  • Dedicated Server Hosting
  • Virtual Dedicated Server or Virtual Private Servers

Shared Hosting:-.In shared hosting same server is shared by multiple websites and the resources (bandwidth, space, connections) are limited. Most of the companies don’t guarantee high performance in shared hosting. It is recommended for new webmasters

Dedicated Server Hosting:-In dedicated server hosting you will have your separate server. It is recommended if your own a blog network (20-30 blogs),high bandwidth website (like streaming websites, image hosting) or if you want to run advanced softwares on your server.Dedicated servers assure you peek performance and high reliability.

Virtual Dedicated servers :-In virtual dedicated servers there will be many  customers on the same server (like shared hosting) but you will be given separate privacy and resources  (like dedicated hosting)

While selecting a any hosting Plan you will have to choose between Windows Hosting or  Linux Hosting

Windows Web Hosting:- The biggest advantage of windows web hosting is that you can run Microsoft softwares  such as Access and MS SQL databases. If you are a developer then you can also use Microsoft programming technologies like Active Server Pages (ASP), Visual Basic Scripts, MS Index Server

Linux Web Hosting:-Linux web hosting is cheaper than windows hosting and it is also known for high speed and less frequent crashes. But you cannot run Microsoft softwares on your Linux hosting

So choose your hosting  plan as well as hosting provider wisely as it will benefit you in the long run.

Twitter Going To Launch A New Photo Sharing Service

Twitter has planned to launch its own photo sharing service  soon. Once its launch in near future you can easily share your family and friends photos to anyone. Twitter may be launching a third-party developers and photo apps .
Adding to this the hype around photo-sharing apps and Twitter’s need to find new revenue sources, and it’s starting to look like a no-brainer. Since it’s been confirmed by several sources, it is very likely that Twitter will be launching the new photo service this week at the D9 conference.
There aren’t that many details on how the service will work, though judging by what is already available it shouldn’t be something too complicated. Users will be able to attach an image to their tweets which will then leave at a separate URL.
Viewing the tweet on Twitter.com will display the image inline and other clients will probably follow with support. Twitter may also use a short URL to enable users to share the photo not only on the site, but on other places as well.
Apart from creating a more complete service, something that Twitter has started to do now that its infrastructure is up to spec, adding photo-sharing features could prove a valuable revenue source.
The obvious move is adding ads next to the images, which is what third-party sites already do. While Twitter shied away from advertising at first, it ended up doing exactly that to generate revenue, albeit in formats specific to Twitter, like promoted tweets and trends.

History Of Internet

The Internet is the network of networks around the world. It is made up of thousands of smaller, national, regional, governmental, academic and commercial networks. It is a global network. Information can be communicated from one city (or country) to another through Internet. You can access information all over the work. More than two billion people around the world use the Internet daily for different purposes. For example, to communicate with other people around the world, access information and latest news around the world etc. The computers are the main components through which information can be electronically sent and received from one location to another. For this purpose, a special device called modem is also used with computer and then computer is attached with the telephone line. The modem sends and receives the information over telephone lines. You must have an Internet connection of any local ISP (Internet Service Provider) to share the information on Internet. The telephone lines, fiber-optic cables, satellite communications are the main media of communications that are used to connect to the Internet.

The Internet was started in 1969 by the defense department of USA. Later, it was handed over to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The DARPA launched the first Internet program. The DARPA established a network of 4 computers and named as ARPANet. The protocols (Software) that define the rules to exchange information between computers were created by DARPA.

The idea of computer networking soon became popular. Several universities & research organizations developed their own computer networks. They joined their networks to ARPANet. The ARPANet became the network of networks. This network of computer networks was named as Internet.

In 1986 the National Science Foundation (NSF), another federal agency of USA, established a network and named as NSFNet. It was established for academic purpose and was accessible to everyone. Later, it was expanded all over the country and large number of universities and research centers were connected to this network. The academic networks were established and all these were interconnected together to share the information. The way of connecting one network to another is termed as internetworking and “Internet” is also derived from internetworking. The NSF provided the connections for academic research centers only. After this many telecommunication companies established their own network backbones by using the same networking protocol as NSFNet used and also provided connections to private users. In 1995, NSF terminated its network on the Internet. Today, the Internet consists of many local, regional, national and international networks.

Network Backbone

The inner structure of the Internet works much like a transportation system. The main communication lines carry the heaviest amount of traffic on the Internet. These communication lines are referred to as Internet backbone. It can also be defined as:

The central structure or element of the network, which connects other elements of the network and handles the major traffic, is called the backbone. The backbone is a high-speed element. It is the major communication link that ties Internet servers across wide geographical areas.

How the Internet works?

It must be noted that there is no particular organization that controls the Internet. Different networks of private companies, government agencies, research organizations, universities etc. are interconnected together. You can say that the Internet is a huge collection of millions of computers, all linked together on a computer network. The network allows all of the computers to communicate with one another. A home computer may be linked to the Internet using a phone-line modem, DSL or cable modem that communicates to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). A computer in a business or university will usually have a network interface card (NIC) that directly connects it to a Local Area Network (LAN) inside the business. The business can then connect its LAN to an ISP using a high-speed phone line such as Ti Line. A Ti Line can handle approximately 1.5 million bits per second, while a normal phone line using a modem can typically handle 30,000 to 50,000 bits per second.

FTP = File Transfer Protocol

File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a standard Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet. Like the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which transfers displayable Web pages and related files, and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), which transfers e-mail, FTP is an application protocol that uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols. FTP is commonly used to transfer Web page files from their creator to the computer that acts as their server for everyone on the Internet. It's also commonly used to download programs and other files to your computer from other servers.
As a user, you can use FTP with a simple command line interface (for example, from the Windows MS-DOS Prompt window) or with a commercial program that offers a graphical user interface. Your Web browser can also make FTP requests to download programs you select from a Web page. Using FTP, you can also update (delete, rename, move, and copy) files at a server. You need to logon to an FTP server. However, publicly available files are easily accessed using anonymous FTP.

HTTP

HTTP Short for HyperText Transfer Protocol, the underlying protocol used by the World Wide Web. HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands. For example, when you enter a URL in your browser, this actually sends an HTTP command to the Web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested Web page.
The other main standard that controls how the World Wide Web works is HTML, which covers how Web pages are formatted and displayed.
HTTP is called a stateless protocol because each command is executed independently, without any knowledge of the commands that came before it. This is the main reason that it is difficult to implement Web sites that react intelligently to user input. This shortcoming of HTTP is being addressed in a number of new technologies, including ActiveX, Java, JavaScript and cookies.

Browse the Web Anonymously by Using Proxy IP Address

IP Proxy Changer is a small tool to surf the web anonymously. IP Proxy Changer downloads the proxies from elite-proxies.blogspot.com, which are updated every day and often several times a day.
After downloading the proxies you can check them. The proxies are simply checked by connecting to whatismyip.com via the proxy.

How to Change IP Address and Use Proxies to Surf Anonymously

This is not an accurate way to check how anonymous they are, but for simple anonymous web surfing (if you’re for example banned from a website/forum), it’s good enough.
> Download IP Proxy Changer : Link
Note: This tool only works with Internet Explorer and browsers that are based on IE, like Maxthon and MyIE2.

Decoding Error Messages

As you surf the Net, you will undoubtedly discover that at times you can't access certain websites. Why, you make wonder? Error messages attempt to explain the reason for that and other problems. Unfortunately, these cryptic messages baffle most people. Don't worry: We've deciphered the most common ones:
400 - Bad Request :
Problem: There's something wrong with the address you entered. You may not be authorized to access the web page, or maybe it no longer exists.Solution: Check the address carefully, especially if the address is long. Make sure that the slashes are correct (they should be forward slashes) and that all the names are properly spelled. Web addresses are case sensitive, so check that the names are capitalized in your entry as they are in the original reference to the website
401 - Unauthorized :
Problem: You can't access a website because you're not on the guest list, your password is invalid or you have entered your password incorrectly.
Solution: If you think you have authorization, try typing your password again. Remember that passwords are case sensitive.
403 - Forbidden :
Problem: Essentially the same as a 401.
Solution: Try entering your password again or move on to another site.
404 - Not Found :
Problem: Either the web page no longer exists on the server or it is nowhere to be found.
Solution: Check the address carefully and try entering it again. You might also see if the site has a search box. If so, use it to hunt for the document. (It's not uncommon for pages to change their addresses when a website is redesigned.) To get to the home page of the site, delete everything after the domain name and hit the Enter or Return key.
For example, if the address is: http://www.learnthenet.com/english/html/96error.htm remove english/html/96error.htm.
503 - Service unavailable :
Problem: Your Internet service provider (ISP) or your Internet connection may be down.
Solution: Take a stretch, wait a few minutes and try again. If you still have no luck, phone your ISP or system administrator.
Bad file request:
Bad file request Problem: Your web browser may not be able to decipher the online form you want to access. There may also be a technical error in the form Solution: Consider sending a message to the site's webmaster, providing any technical information you can, such as the browser and version you use.
Connection refused by host:
Problem: You don't have permission to access the page or your password is incorrect.Solution: Try retyping your password if you think you should have access.
Failed DNS lookup:
Problem: DNS stands for the Domain name System, which is the system that looks up the name of a website, finds a corresponding number (similar to a phone number), then directs your request to the appropriate web server on the Internet. When the lookup fails, the host server can't be located.
Solution: Try clicking the Reload or Refresh button on your browser toolbar. If this doesn't work, check the address and enter it again. If all else fails, try again later.
File contains no data:
Problem: The site has no web pages on it.
Solution: Check the address and enter it again. If you get the same error message, try again later.
Host unavailable :
Problem: The web server is down.
Solution: Try clicking the Reload or Refresh button. If this doesn't work, try again later.
Host unknown :
Problem: The web server is down, the site may have moved, or you've been disconnected from the Net.
Solution: Try clicking the Reload or Refresh button and check to see that you are still online. If this fails, try using a search engine to find the site. It may have a new address.
Network connection refused by the server:
Problem: The web server is busy.
Solution: Try again in a while
Unable to locate host :
Problem: The web server is down or you've been disconnected from the Net.
Solution: Try clicking the Reload or Refresh button and check to see that you are still online.
Unable to locate server :
Problem: The web server is out-of-business or you may have entered the address incorrectly.

Solution:Check the address and try typing it again.

The A to Z Guide to Getting Website Traffic

In September of 1999, Brett Tabke wrote "26 Steps to 15k a Day" in the Webmaster World forum. A lot has changed since then, and now is the time to consider a new 26-step plan that meets the current needs of webmasters in 2006. Some of the old ones still apply (writing new content everyday, for example), and some don't (submitting to the search engines is no longer necessary), and we're here to tell you which is which! As you probably already know, bringing in traffic is not easy - it takes hard work, determination and lots of elbow grease. So if you're ready, roll up your sleeves and follow these 26 simple steps, and within just one year you will generate enough traffic to keep you busy for a long, long time!
A) Keyword Research
Before you do anything else, use a keyword research tool and do an extensive job researching the right keyphrases to use for your site. What keyphrases are your direct competitors using? Are there any keyphrases that create a potential for market entry? Are there any that you can put a spin on and create a whole new niche with?
B) Domain Name
If you want to brand your company name, then choose a domain name that reflects it. If your company is Kawunga, then get www.kawunga.com. If it's taken, then get www.kawungawidgets.com. No dashes, and no more than two words in the domain if appropriate.
C) Avoid the Sandbox
Buy your domain name early, as soon as you have chosen your keyphrases and your company name. Get it hosted right away and put up a quick one page site saying a little about who you are, what you sell, and that there will be more to come soon. Make sure it gets crawled by Google and Yahoo (either submit it or link to it from another site).
D) Create Content
Create over 30 pages of real, original content on your site. This will give the spiders something to chew on. It will also give you more opportunities to been seen in the search engine results for a wide variety of keyphrases.
E) Site Design
Use the "Keep It Simple" principle. Employ an external CSS file, clean up any Java Scripts by referring to them off the page in an external file, don't use frames, use flash the way you would an image, and no matter what, do not create a flash site. Do not offer a busy site with lots of bells and whistles to your visitors. Keep things nice and simple. Make it easy for them to find what they are looking for and they'll have no reason to look anywhere else.
F) Page Size
The less kilobytes your page uses, the better - especially for the home page. Optimize your images and make sure the page loads quickly. Most people and businesses in the Western world may have high speed, but cell phones and other countries might not. If your site loads slowly, you may have already lost your visitor before they've even had a chance to browse around.
G) Usability
Make sure that your site follows good usability rules. Remember that people spend more time on other sites, so don't violate design conventions. Don't use PDF files for online reading. Change the colours for visited links, and use good headers. Look up usability for more tips and tricks, it will be worth your while.
H) On Site Optimization
Use the keyphrase you have chosen in your title (most important), your headers (when appropriate), and within the text. Make sure that your page/content is ABOUT your keyphrase. If you are selling widgets, than write about widgets. Don't just stick the word widgets into the text.
I) Globals
Globals are the links that remain the same on every page. They are the reference for new visitors to keep them from getting lost. Sometimes they are on the left of the page, sometimes they consist of tabs at the top. Often they are in the footer of the page as well. Make sure that you have an old style text version of your globals on every page. I usually create tabs at the top, and put the text versions in the footer at the bottom of the page. Find out what works best for you.
J) Headers
Use bold headers. On the Internet, people scan they don't read. So initially, all they will see are the headers. If your headers don't address their concerns, they won't stick around long enough to read your content. Use appropriate keyphrases when you can.
K) Site Map
Build a site map with a link to each of your pages. Keep it up to date. This will allow the spiders to get to every page. Put a text link to the site map on the main pages.
L) Content
Add a page every 2-3 days: 200-500 words. Create original content, don't copy others. The more original and useful it is, the more people will read it, link to it, and most importantly of all - like it enough to keep coming back for more.
M) White Hat Only
Stay away from black hat optimizing techniques. Black hat optimization consists of using any method to get higher rankings that the search engines would disapprove of, such as keyword stuffing, doorway pages, invisible text, cloaking and more. Stick to white hat methods for long-term success. People who use black hat optimization are usually there for the short-term, such as in porn, gambling, and Viagra markets (just look at your email spam for more black hat markets). These black hat industry sites are usually around just long enough to make a quick buck.
N) Competition Analysis
Who is linking to your competition? Use Yahoo's "link:" service to see the back links of your competition. For example, type in "link:http://www.yourdomain.com" into Yahoo search without the quotes). Try to get links from the same sites as your direct competitors. Better yet, see if you can replace them!
O) Submit
Submit to five groups of directories:
1. Dmoz.org and Yahoo (local, such as Yahoo.co.uk, or Yahoo.ca, etc... if you can).
2. Find directories in your field and get into them. Pay if you must, but only if the price is reasonable.
3. Local directories that relate to your country or region.
4. Any other directories that would be appropriate.
5. If you are targeting the local market, make sure that you are in the Yellow Pages and Superpages (because search engines use these listings to power local searches)
P) Blog
Start a blog about your industry and write a new entry at least once a week. Allow your visitors to comment or, better yet, write their own entries. This will create even more content on your site and will keep people coming back regularly to see what is new.

Q) Links From Other Sites
Simply submit your website to appropriate sites, asking that they link to your site as a reference because it will benefit their visitors. Don't spend too much time on this, if your content is good and original, they will find you and link to you naturally. Remember that Linking is Queen (http://www.redcarpetweb.com/promotion/0409.html#feature).
Stay away from reciprocal linking, links farms, link scams, and any other unnatural links. They may not necessarily hurt you, but Google tracks when you get a link, how long you have had a link, who links to the site that links to you, where you live, what you had for breakfast, and more (not really... but kind of).
R) Statistics
Make sure your server has a good statistics program. Use it! If you don't have access to a good program, then pay for one. Without the knowledge of who is coming to your site, from where, and how often, you will be missing out on some essential tools to improve your site.
S) Pay-Per-Click (PPC)
Sign up for Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing. Spend money getting people to your site. Use it for branding too. This will create a steady flow of visitors to your site, and will make your site more accessible to your potential clients. You don't have to be #1, you don't even have to be #5... just make sure you are on the first page of search results for most of your keyphrases, when the cost is right.
T) Look Ahead
Stay informed of what is coming up in your market. If a new product will be out next season, write about it now. Take advantage of being a first mover. The search engines, and linkers, will reward you.
U) Articles
Write an article once every week and get it published in as many online publications as you can (with a link back to your site). Include the article on your site. Not only will this create many links to your site, but it will also get people to click to your site, and most importantly you will become an expert in the eyes of your visitors. They may even begin looking for your site by querying your name!
V) Study Your Traffic
After 30 to 90 days you will have enough results to analyze in your statistics program. Go over them with a fine tooth comb. Get the answers to these questions:
  • Where are your visitors coming from?
  • Which search engines do they use?
  • What queries do they type in?
  • What pages on your site do they visit the most?
  • What are the entry pages on your site?
  • What are the exit pages?
  • What path do they follow when they browse your site?
Use this information to tweak your site.
  • Use the most popular page to encourage the visitors to make you money.
  • Adjust the paths they use to send them where you want them.
  • Figure out why they leave from the exit pages.
Also, see what search terms people use to find you, and fine tune your keyphrases. If you targeted "green widgets", but your visitors are finding you with the query "green leather widgets", then start creating content about "leather widgets"!
W) Verify Your Submissions
After 3-4 months, check that you got into Dmoz.org and all of the other directories that you submitted to. If you have not been included, then submit again, or better yet, write a polite email to the editor and ask why. Also, find any new directories that would be worthy of your submittal time and submit to them.
X) RSS Feeds
RSS (Real Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) is becoming a powerful tool for Internet marketers. You can quickly and easily add fresh content to your website. Article feeds are updated frequently, so you can give your visitors (and the search engines) what they want - fresh content! You can use RSS to promote any new content, such as new pages, articles, blogs, press releases, and more!
Y) Press Releases
A press release is a written communication that you submit to journalists in the media (newspapers, radio, television, magazines) which are used to make announcements that are newsworthy. Create press releases announcing publication of any new articles or new company information or products. If it is interesting/original enough, a journalist may pick it up and write an article about it. Before you know it, your website address may get published in the NY Times.
Z) Keep Your Content Fresh
Remember to write a new page every 2-3 days. I only mentioned it briefly, but it is probably the most important point in this article. Keep writing! Without fresh content, your site will gradually drop in the search engine results. To stay on top, your content has to be the most up-to-date, freshest, and most interesting and original content in your field.
Follow these 26 simple steps and I assure you that within one year you will call your site a success. You will bring in a massive amount of traffic from within your industry and watch as your business grows!
So start writing, and write yourself to the top!

How To Speed Up your BroadBand Speed

I just found this article which discusses important tips to significantly speed up your internet access through BSNL Dataone broadband connection / most other BroadBand connections like Reliance or Tata Indicom or Sify Broadband .

Setting DNS For Your Connection
One of the major problems with BSNL Dataone Broadband connection is the DNS servers they provide by default. Most of the time they are very slow and sometimes they fail to respond. I noticed that I am starting to spend a significant amount of time in DNS resolution with Dataone connection, often it is larger than the time it takes to actually get the reponse. Here is a simple solution to significantly speed up your DNS resolution.

Open up the network connection profile and edit TCP/IP settings. In the DNS server address fields, specify the following DNS server addresses: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Disconnect the connection and then connect again. You are done.

This specifies third party DNS servers which are significantly faster than BSNL Dataone’s DNS servers.

Note: The service is provided by OpenDNS.

Saving your Bandwidth
Firefox users can use FlashBlock extension to prevent downloading of Flash content by default, thereby significantly speeding up browsing experience. You can click on the placeholder icon to display the original Flash content any time. This is more of a passive tip in that reduces data usage to improve your overall experience.

Setting TCP Parameters
You can try to increase your broadband bandwidth tweaking the TCP/IP parameters. The process is simplified by using TCPOptimizer, a free tool. It helped me a lot but your mileage may vary
